Don’t wait, participate! We offer our community, membership, and visitors many ways to take part in events and programming, as well as in the governance and operation of the organization.
As an all-volunteer organization, member participation is critical to the success of FGS’s mission to encourage the interest and cooperation of all gardeners in the Victory Gardens, represent the gardeners in all dealing with third-parties, and to teach gardeners and visitors urban gardening techniques. FGS offers year-round opportunities for involvement.
Ways to get involved:
- Become a member
- Attend a Community Participation Day
- Teach a workshop
- Write for our quarterly newsletter, The Fenway Post
- Join one of our committees
- Plan a Clean Up day with us for your employer, school, or group
- Help out at one of our events
- Take photographs for our archives, social media accounts, website, and newsletters
- Donate gardening tools, seeds, lumber, fencing, meeting space, or food & drinks for events
Vital to the ongoing maintenance of the parkland of which we have stewardship, with tasks as varied as repairs of the irrigation system, turning compost, building gates and mending fences, our Community Participation Days are also great opportunities to catch up with old friends and make new ones, share knowledge, insights and experience. Community Participation Days are opportunities for gardeners and neighbors to come together to help maintain our park.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities who are excited about working together to improve the gardens while sharing their knowledge and experience. Tasks vary from weeding paths and turning compost to building gates and mending fences. Community Participation Days start in the morning and are followed by educational workshops and meet-ups at local restaurants. These happen every year in April, May, June, August, September, and October. We even sweeten the deal with doughnuts and coffee!
