The Fenway Victory Gardens Est. 1942

New Security in the Parks

Written By Annie Wu, FGS Member

A new Committee in direct response to the stated need from our members for better safety and security, the FGS Board has established the Security Committee, consisting of the SVP of Administration and the Security Representatives. The mission of the Committee is to act as a collective body on issues of public safety in and around the Fenway Victory Gardens.A preliminary discussion among the Security Reps took place in December, where a number of current issues were raised and valuable suggestions made, such as handling of hypodermic needles and reporting of vandalism.

A small group of FGS members also attended the West Fens Police meeting in January, where they met Captain Paul Ivens, Commander of District D-4, and Community Officer Bill Slyne. Both officers encouraged residents to call 911 for problems big or small, emphasizing that the 911 call team is well staffed to handle all calls and triage them promptly. Also at the meeting was Nick Carter, our Neighborhood Liaison for City Councilor Josh Zakim.

Through collaboration with the Fenway Community Center, the FGS Security Committee will hold monthly discussions at the Center from 6:30PM to 7:30PM on the 2nd Tuesdays of each month, starting on February 9th through June, then another location will be announced. All friends and local residents are welcome. FGS members are especially encouraged to become part of the Committee as Security Representatives.

The following members have graciously volunteered as Security Representatives:
Park Section: Gerald Cooper, Committee Co-Chair, Robbie Hernandez, Ann Hwang, Marc Poisson
Center North Section: Corrine Belt, Tom Collins, Steve Ricca
Boylston Section: Kevin Cranston, Committee Chair
Center South Section: Orathai Yordbangteay
