Shrub pruning workshop on Saturday, June 1st. We had perfect weather with 20 gardeners attending as Jen Kettell, certified arborist and owner of Radiant Leaf Consulting, led an informative pruning workshop for Fenway Victory Gardeners, with plenty of hands-on demo’s in five gardens. The morning session focused on basic techniques in pruning shrubs and vines that flower in spring (e.g., lilacs, forsythia, and wisteria). The session was timed to prune soon after these plants had bloomed and before new buds are set for next season to ensure maximum blooms. A key take-away from Jen to guide you while pruning – be sure to, every now and then, Stop, Step Back, and Inspect your progress. This ensures a balanced shape and tells you when you’ve clipped enough!
